Sharing Happiness

This week I told my sister about the steps I’m taking in my persuit of happiness.

She has taken it completely on board and now each day the two of us are sharing all the big/little things we are doing to improve our own wellbeing.

It’s making a huge difference for me and is really enjoyable. It doesn’t take a huge amount of time, we just send a picture or a short sentence.
Why not give it a try? It’s amazing how much sharing can motivate you. It’s also a great way to connect with someone too and we all know how good that is for us 🙂

A little tip… smile :)

Have you heard that smiling can make you feel happier?

It’s such a quick and easy way to give yourself a little boost. Especially for those days where you are just not feeling as good as you could be or want to be.

I have a few times that I typically call upon this little trick;

  • First thing in the morning
  • Just before I enter the office at work

There is growing evidence around this and it seems to be indicating that smiling makes us happy. So why not give it a go for a ‘pickmeup’.

It’s always nice to smile at others too but we can’t control someone else’s response, even if they don’t smile back, keep smiling!

Just a positive note to share…

Stepping out of my comfort zone this evening.

I’m currently on my way home from a book club. A bookclub focusing on Self-Help books.

I got to speak to other people about their views on how we can improve our own wellbeing a small step at a time.
Many great movements for happiness achieved tonight.
– Meeting new people/Socialising

What I’m reading..

I’m reading ‘The Book of Doing and Being’ by Barnet Bain. I’m only a third of the way through but I’m feeling pretty inspired right now so wanted to share this.

Using a range of techniques and tools, Bain is sharing his story on how to ‘unleash your creative energy’.

This book has given me a different outlook on what being creative means. If you are feeling a bit de-motivated and find yourself off track, this book may be just what you need right now.

I got a used one from Amazon so it didn’t set me back much.

Learning makes us happy!

So apparently, Learning new things is a big factor to improving our own happiness and wellbeing. Though I wouldn’t have believed this when I was just a few years younger, I really do now.

Of course it probably helps when you are learning about something that you enjoy. For me it is linked to me having this blog and currently doing a life coaching course. I am learning so much along the way and there is no doubt I am a happier person because of it.

And even at work (I work in addictions), there has been a huge movement that requires me to learn, learn, learn! It is making me feel more confident and empowered and naturally that makes me feel great.

I am a big Action for Happiness follower – On their website they state:

‘Learning affects our well-being in lots of positive ways. It exposes us to new ideas and helps us stay curious and engaged. It also gives us a sense of accomplishment and helps boost our self-confidence and resilience.’

I’m feeling inspired and want to find some alternative ways to learn. I’ve found a brilliant self-help book club. I love that it incorporates learning with socialising.

Monday vibes – Affirmation of the day..

Happy Monday everyone.

Feeling lots of positive vibes today after a great weekend.

I’ve been practicing daily affirmations and can’t recommend it highly enough.

We all have the ability to change our thoughts and think positively, actually doing this can be a challenge to get used to but I find it so worth it.

Affirmation of the day: ‘I am so happy and full of love and positivity today’.

Preparation, goals and reflecting

I am back from Rome. It was amazing.
I stuck to my goals (with one exception).

Preparation is key for me and I reminded myself often of the goals I set out beforehand.

I had such an amazing time. Of course, now I am back I am able to reflect on what a truly incredible week I had.

I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to spend time with my friends and made some brilliant memories.

Being a bridesmaid for my best friend is something I will never forget.

Next stop: Moving house.

Holiday goals

I am taking this time to think about the exciting week I have ahead of me.

I am headed to Rome for a week. Half way through I will be bridesmaid at my best friends wedding. I feel so honoured with this role.

I have a habit of not taking in great moments and I feel like I miss them sometimes. Here are my goals for the next week:

1. Be in the moment
2. Take lots of pictures
3. Make effort to speak to new people and ask questions.
4. Smile and laugh.
5. Don’t stress if it doesn’t really matter.
6. Remember that this week is an adventure and it is all about making great memories.

I am taking this time to reflect so that I don’t spend this week inside my own head. I learned the importance of this during the weekend just gone.

Pocket Full of Preparation

I recently had what should have been the perfect weekend. My partner and I went away to stay with his friends for the weekend. The weekend consisted of a lovely walk, seeing the town, gorgeous food, games and a few drinks.

However, I noticed that I was really in my own head all weekend, being negative and self critical. Although I don’t think anyone could tell, I was fully aware. I was only half a person and that can be exhausting.

I am aware that I sometimes find it awkward when I am around people I don’t know too well and I think that had a lot to do with it. I also think I may have just been having a bit of an ‘off’ time recently.

So naturally, I’ve been thinking about where I went wrong and why my self-esteem felt at an all time low.

What I’ve realised is that preparation is key. I should have had some ‘me time’ to go through my expectations of the weekend and what I wanted to give/get. I was going into a situation where I was a bit out of my comfort zone and I let that take over. I also allowed myself to feel inferior on many ocassions (I will discuss further in another post). I need to be extremely mindful of who I am, what I believe and what I can GIVE.

With that being said, I am off to Rome tomorrow where I will be a attending a wedding (bridesmaid!!!). I am going to do a post shortly about goals for the week.
